Government, partners and United Nations in Burundi praised BNUB transition's process
20 November 2014 – At the last meeting of BNUB's transition steering group held today in Bujumbura, the Government of Burundi, bilateral and multilateral partners and United Nations praised the conduct of the Office's transition. The meeting was co-chaired by the Minister of Interior, Edouard Nduwimana and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Burundi, Parfait Onanga-Ananga.
Participants gathered within the steering group assessed the implementation of the transition plan adopted last April and submitted to the Security Council on the 15 May 2014. The meeting also identified BNUB transition best practices during the implementation process.
BNUB's transition to the Country Team - made of UN agencies, funds and programs in Burundi – is contemplated in the Security Council 2137 Resolution (2014) which recommends the establishment of a transition steering group "to map the international community's support to Burundi, in particular the transfer of functions currently provided by BNUB which may be needed after the Mission's planned drawdown".
