USG Jeffrey D. Feltman arrived in Burundi

01 February 2013 - The Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey D. Feltman, arrives this Friday in Burundi for a brief visit. He will meet with the President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza tomorrow.

During his staying, the top UN official will also meet with members of the Government, representatives of political parties and civil society in Burundi as well as diplomats.

The purpose of this visit is to better understand the reality of the country and support the work of the United Nations in Burundi.

Feltman, a U.S. citizen with over 26 years experience in politics and diplomacy, has been appointed Head of the Department of Political Affairs of the United Nations (DPA) in June 2012.

After taking office, Feltman expressed the wish of the DPA to continue working with all Member States and all stakeholders to ensure the success of the United Nations peace and conflict prevention initiatives.
