SRSG Onanga-Anyanga ends courtesy visits to Burundian top officials

18 September 2012 – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Burundi and Head of BNUB Parfait Onanga-Anyanga today held a meeting with Burundian first Vice-president as part of his courtesy visits to the country's top officials.

Burundian first vice president Terence Sinunguruza and SRSG Onanga-Anyanga discussions focused the participation of the Burundian official at the UN General assembly as well as the upcoming Burundi's conference of donors on 29-30 October 2012 in Geneva. "With the first vice president, we had exchange of views on wide range issues that are of great importance to Burundi including stabilization peace and security, human rights, democratization, but also sustainable development, and the preparation for the first vice president visit to New York where he will be attending", SRSG Onanga-Anyanga said.

In his first contact with national authorities, the SRSG and Head of BNUB was received by the President of Republic, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Senate's president, the second vice president and the Ombudsman.

He is also holding meetings with representatives of political parties, including opposition, and civil society representatives.
