Bujumbura, May 06, 2011_United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Rosine Sori-Coulibaly of Burkina Faso as Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Office in Burundi (BNUB) and United Nations Resident Coordinator, Resident Representative and Humanitarian Coordinator for Burundi.

Ms. Sori-Coulibaly brings to the position years of international and national experience in the field of development. Prior to joining the United Nations, Ms. Sori-Coulibaly served in her home country as an economist in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, as well as a member of the Social and Economic Council. She has been also a lecturer at the National School of Administration and member of organisations for the emancipation of women and human rights. She served variously for the United Nations as Consultant Economist in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs prior to her appointment as Senior Economist for the United Nations Development Programme in Burundi and Benin, and Deputy Resident Representative in Mauritania.

As United Nations Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative in Togo, she has worked closely with national and international partners to ensure a common approach to development and electoral process challenges. In this regard, she has mobilized considerable funds.

Ms. Sori-Coulibaly holds a master's degree in development economics from the University Cheikh Anta Diop, Dakar, Senegal, and a postgraduate degree in planning and macroeconomics from the United Nations Institute for Economic Development and Planning.

Born in 1958, she is married and has two children.
