The PBC chair to Burundi, Paul Seger, met Burundi Second Vice-President, Gervais Rufyikiri.

14 January 2014 - Burundi Second Vice-President, Gervais Rufyikiri, received the Chair of the Burundi Configuration of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission, Ambassador Paul Seger. Discussions between the two authorities focused on the follow-up of Geneva’s partners conference held in October 2012 and political issues such as the revision of the Constitution, the Press Law and the new law which governs the land commission (Commission National Terres et Autres Biens - CNTB).

The PBC chair to Burundi said that the Geneva’s partners conference is a success because the $ 2.6 billion promised in Geneva were confirmed. “This is a sign that the bilateral relationship between the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission and Burundi has an effect.”

About the end of the mandate of the United Nations Office in Burundi (BNUB) desired by the government, Seger said “if the Government of Burundi wishes that the mandate expires, it is his right, but the question is how this mandate should end. There are certain deadlines, there are certain processes to follow, it should not, in my opinion, be an immediate rupture."
