Press Statement

7 August 2013 - The United Nations Office in Burundi (BNUB) notes that with the return onto the national political scene of Mr. Agathon Rwasa on 6 August 2013, the majority of political personalities who had boycotted the elections in 2010 have now resumed their political activities. Other political actors such as Ms. Pascaline Kampayano and Mr. Alexis Sinduhije had returned to Burundi a few months ago.

BNUB takes this opportunity to renew its appreciation of the spirit of openness and co-operation shown by the Government of Burundi, which facilitates the progressive return to normal political life.

BNUB encourages the entire political class in Burundi to work in a harmonious and patriotic spirit, to prepare for the holding of transparent, free and fair elections in 2015.

BNUB reaffirms its commitment to pursue, in accordance with its mandate and in collaboration with other partners of Burundi, its support to the Burundian authorities in their efforts to promote an inclusive political dialogue, with a view to consolidating the institutions and democratic process in Burundi, for peace, stability and sustainable development.
